Babies start to hear from around 18 weeks
A new study has discovered that playing classical music to babies in the womb has incredible benefits.
Babies will start to hear from around the 18th week of your pregnancy so playing music and talking to them is valuable.
A new study, conducted by a team in Mexico, confirmed that music helps calm your baby’s heart rate.
The team monitored 36 expectant mums and played two types of classical music.
They attached monitors to the pregnant women and then measured the baby’s fetal heart response as each song played.
Study co-author Dr Claudia Lerma explained that exposing the baby to music in the womb can help their development.
She stated: “Overall, we discovered that exposure to music resulted in more stable and predictable foetal heart rate patterns.
“We speculate that this momentary effect could stimulate the development of the foetal autonomic nervous system.”
The team encouraged parents-to-be to play classical music for their babies at home.
Prof Abarca-Castro added: “Our results suggest that these changes in foetal heart rate dynamics occur instantly in short-term fluctuations, so parents might want to consider exposing their foetuses to quiet music.
“Parents who play soothing music may stimulate and benefit the foetal autonomic system.”
The team explained that using music to calm babies’ heart rates can possibly lead to providing developmental benefits.
The team’s study was published in Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science.
