I recently declined a hen party because of a weekend away with my family but the response returned was almost one of relief: 'You need to relax chick, put the feet up’. I felt like screaming down the phone that I was still going away, just not with her party. In fact, it would probably be a more hectic weekend for me as nine children would be coming along for the trip and this inevitably would involve babysitting, tears, bruises and loud dinners. However, I kept my emotions in check and replied with a simple ‘thanks missus, have a great time’.
In terms of dealing with the problem, I’ve decided to be proactive. I’m (yes me, the heavily pregnant lady) organizing a night out for everyone in two weeks time. It will involve dinner followed by drinks in a pub and I’m getting seriously dressed up for it. I may even get my hair and nails done. I can’t and don’t intend to avoid conversations about the bump but I am looking forward to hearing about everyone else’s lives these days.
If ya can’t beat them, join them... and if that’s not happening, make them join you!
