The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 40 – Our Little Boy Arrives!

Big belly

AMAZING.

I can’t believe that that tiny little baby grew in my belly. He’s a perfect 6 pounds 3 ounces and the love I feel is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Everyone says he’s the image of his daddy and I really can’t argue with them. He has the same forehead and chin, but he definitely has my button nose.

My hubby has already done an emergency run to Dunnes Stores as most of the clothes we bought are too big. We were advised to get 0-3 months but these are all swimming on him and he keeps getting his legs stuck in the buttons! The maternity ward is strict on visitors so we’re limited to parents for now. My mum and dad will come in later.

The labour was terrible – I had an emergency Caesarean section and am still coming to terms with what happened. My consultant had no answers as to why our baby was in distress during labour but is certain that the surgery was the best option. I was taken to recovery afterwards and didn’t get to see him for several hours. I’m lucky that my husband was there to take care of our baby for that time.

I’m just so grateful that he’s here and he’s perfect. My recovery will take about six weeks and I’m limited in what I can do. However, it’s a small price to pay for the safe arrival of our little man, Max.

We’re about to start a whole new adventure and I can’t wait…
