Did you know that the so-called “pregnancy glow” is an actual thing? Well, it is, which means that the next time you hear it, you really are glowing, it’s not just someone being nice.
HelloGiggles decided to do a bit of research into it and found that it’s not a myth or something that people just say when you’re expecting.
Dermatologist Dr. Sara Gaspard explained that “many women do look rosier, healthier, more glowing during pregnancy.”
This was backed up by gynaecologist Dr. Felice Gersh who told the website that it is caused by an increased volume of blood in the body.
She said: “In pregnancy, blood volume naturally increases and there is also a natural dilation of blood vessels… to maintain proper blood flow to the placenta.”
This leads to increased blood flow to the skin, including the face, which creates the glow that everyone comments on.
