A premature baby who was born weighing just one pound has gotten to go home for Christmas.

Greyson Barnett was born to parents Leslie and Jeremy last year in Idaho.

At just 22 weeks, Leslie went into labour and delivered a baby girl – her daughter, Cari Lynn, did not survive the birth.

Doctors remained hopeful that the baby boy, Grayson, would stay in the womb for longer, but the next day, he arrived, weighing just one pound.

A GoFundMe page was set up during that time to raise money to pay for baby Grayson’s medical expenses.

According to the page, the newborn was transported to the Washington Medical Centre where he remained under constant observation.

“As the doctor here explained it to his father, Grayson has a massive mountain to climb and right now he is just trying to find his shoes. “

Now, over 12 months on, Grayson has returned home to Idaho to spend Christmas with his family.

Leslie took to Facebook to celebrate her son’s first birthday and to say how “crazy” it is that this time last year, Grayson only had a 5 – 10 percent chance of survival.

She wrote:

“His first year of life has been a rough one, but he has been such a warrior through it all.

“I am so proud of this little guy. He has beat every challenge that has come his way and constantly hits all his adjusted age milestones.

“He amazes me every single day.”
