A Scottish mother's labour was significantly sped up after her car hit a pothole

It’s a pretty unconventional method of inducing labour!

Everyone knows, no matter how detailed and organised you are when it comes to putting together a birth plan, labour is an unpredictable process and anything can happen.

It’s probably every mum’s worst nightmare being en route to the hospital or commuting home if you’ve decided on a home birth and the possibility of not making it looks probable.

This was the unfortunate circumstance one mum found herself in after her labour was sped up when her car hit a pothole on the way to the hospital.

Aimee Young, of Forfar in Angus, started experiencing contractions at home so headed for Ninewells Hospital with her mother and aunt, ITV reported.

She told the story of how her birth didn’t go quite to plan saying:

“The contractions then started coming, harder and stronger – but my waters had not broken.

It broke after we hit a pothole.

My auntie, who was driving, went into a country road at Todhills, and pulled over by the Halley Robert and Sons garage.

I was there for what I felt like forever for me – the baby, at this point, was crowning.”

YIKES!

Luckily Aimee’s aunt acted fast and an emergency response team were on the scene in no time. Aimee gave birth on the side of the road to a healthy baby boy, Peter, weighing 8lb and 4oz.

She thanked the team for their assistance and for finding her in such a “silly place.”
