The Pregnancy Diaries: Week 13 – It’s all out from here!

Unless I start wearing ridiculously over-sized clothing there is no hiding ‘the bump’. All my clothing seems only to emphasize the area which I am now starting to realise is inevitable.

However, the truth about it all is I’m starting to really enjoy that part! I like it when people stare at my small but now obvious bump and wonder if they should say anything. I’ve been getting lots of those ‘stares’ at work especially – so I’m spending a lot of time analyzing eyebrow twitches and smirks in an effort to figure out of they’ve twigged it or not.

We’re now at the end of the first trimester and I’m so relieved – the experts say that at this stage, the risk of miscarriage has dropped dramatically, so I think I’m ready to really bond with baby and start making plans.

At week 13 we are finally ready to tell everyone that we’re expecting our first little bundle of joy in 2016. It’s an exciting time because I’m so eager to share our good news and I’m sure those we have already told will breathe a sigh of relief now that it’s out in the open.

So, while the baby has grown to about three inches, I too am expanding in many different ways. For one, I cannot believe how big my boobs are getting. My nipples and the surrounding tissue have developed a deep brown hue and I’ve gone up a cup size. All sounds good, but they are heavy and sore to touch. Also, where are all these veins coming from?

I read online that now is the time to buy well-fitting bras and wow is that important! I got fitted for my bra in a high street chain this week and that boulder holder is a real godsend. However, my jaw nearly hit the ground when the shop assistant advised that I would probably need an even bigger bra in a few weeks. I mean, CAN THEY ACTUALLY GET BIGGER?!

One tip I found most helpful is to buy nighttime vests with extra support. I’m at the stage at which my breasts just can’t cope without some help. And while the man in my life loves the way they look – unfortunately for him, it’s a strictly look but don’t touch policy.

So, the next stop is the fun part and sharing our news with all our friends and family…
