Monday’s meeting with the Early Pregnancy Unit at the hospital went well. I’m proud to say that the baby was enjoying its time inside so much that the radiographer almost scolded it as she struggled to get measurements.
The bleed is still ongoing but I’m slowly coming around to the realisation that I just have to deal with it. The important thing is that the baby is doing well and growing.
Happy days… The doctor also says we can take that trip to London in a few weeks’ time. I had put it to the back of my mind and just accepted that it wouldn’t happen but I’m glad that it’s possible. My husband has had to endure weeks of moaning and groaning over the past few weeks and to be honest, I’m looking forward to taking a break and just getting away from things.
Sex has been a non-runner since I began bleeding and obviously so. It’s hard as I really miss the intimacy but I’m not exactly gagging for it either. My boobs are getting bigger and jeez are they sore – I can’t even fathom how I would endure having them man-handled!
In terms of weight gain, it’s only now that I’m starting to pay attention to the scales. When I consulted my ‘pregnancy bible’ it says you should only gain about 5lbs in the first trimester with 1lb per week starting from trimester two. Well if that’s the norm, I can say I’m doing above and beyond recommendations. I’ve gained 11lbs already – that’s 4lbs over. So I investigated a little more and (*gasp*) it turns out you only need an extra 300 calories a day to support the baby’s growth. I mean I’m devouring those extra calories by the time breakfast is over!
To make things worse, my hubby is on a frigging diet and is looking better than ever. He’s on a drive to get in shape. I suppose it bodes well that he’s on a healthy course.
So now my baby is about the size of a lime – yay! – I’m not proud of gaining more weight than expected at this early stage but I am proud he is.
