The restaurant that REALLY wants you to call your baby Quinoa

Sive O'Brien

Expecting a baby and can’t decide on a name? You might be interested to know that a restaurant in the US is offering to pay thousands if somebody calls their baby Quinoa.

Launching a new line of quinoa bowls, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is celebrating (and promoting) the new healthy menu item by offering $10,000 (almost €9,000) in gift cards to the first person to call their baby after the superfood. Just imagine all the quinoa (or calamari) you could buy with that. Would it be worth it though? Probably not.

Chief marketing officer at the restaurant chain, Kevin Mayer said, “We are so excited to introduce these amazing new Quinoa Bowls that we wanted to do something big, maybe even a little crazy.” He’s not wrong.

The contest, which opened last week, runs until 11.59 pm on September 7, 2015, and parents have until October 21 to submit a copy of their baby’s birth certificate.

Official rules state, “Your baby must be born or adopted (i.e., the adoption finalized) during the Contest Period. Alternative spellings of “Quinoa” will not qualify, and assigning the name as a middle name or nickname (i.e., anything other than the baby’s first name) also will not qualify.”

So, what are you waiting for?
