There’s a new kind of baby shower and it sounds perfect for low-key mamas

Baby showers are very popular these days with groups of friends and family gathering together to spoil mamas-to-be.

Traditionally, the baby shower is supposed to be for the first child, but it’s beginning to happen for second or later babies too. Sure, what harm?

But, some people don’t want to throw a big party or fancy lunch if they’re onto their second or third baby, so this is where a new baby shower trend has come in. It’s been dubbed the Baby Sprinkle and is a toned down, low key celebration ahead of the baby’s arrival.

According to Parenting.com, it has become popular for lots of reasons. It’s being used as a way to involve the first child in preparation for the second baby. They get to be a part of the build-up and understand better that they are about to get a baby brother or sister.

Also, couples are using the Sprinkle as a way to reveal the sex of the baby to their friends and family. While Baby Showers tend to be slightly bigger, a Sprinkle is only intended for immediate friends and family.

Co-workers, cousins, distant friends and neighbours won’t be invited to a Sprinkle. There also isn’t as much pressure on people to provide a gift.
