Did your toilet seat turn blue when you were pregnant? Here’s why…

Melissa Carton

Excuse me what?

Some new and sometimes strange things can happen when we’re pregnant but usually within our own bodies.

Some expectant mums however are experiencing something very odd… their toilet seats are turning blue.

At first I thought it was just one or two mums that this has happened to but apparently it’s something that happens to lots of pregnant women and as it turns out there’s actually a reason why.

A lot of pregnant women have reported finding their toilet seats turning blue after they use them but what causes this?

While no one can say with 100 per cent certainty why exactly this happens the most likely reason it happens is due to your pregnancy hormones.

Basically your toilet seat turns into a home pregnancy test but bigger.

If you didn’t know you were pregnant before you do now.

The thing that most of the women who reported the blue seat phenomenon had in common was the reporting of imbalanced hormone levels.

Elevated levels of estrogen and progesterone in pregnant women may change the pH of their skin, which then in turn interacts with the ionized silver anti-microbial coating of their toilet seats and may cause them to change colour, which is this instance is blue.

While I did mention above that it basically turns your toilet into a makeshift pregnancy test this reaction can sometimes happen to women and even men who are in no way pregnant.

Again this is due to hormone imbalances which can be caused by a number of reasons including medical conditions or even medications that you may be taking.

Honestly, I’ve been pregnant a couple of times and it has never happened to me or anyone I know but if it has happened to you let us know in the comments below.
