A transgender man who was the first in the UK to give birth has said he wouldn’t recommend the experience.

Hayden Cross, who was born a woman but has been living as a man for three years, gave birth to daughter Trinity-Leigh in June 2017.

He had paused his transitioning process from woman to man in order to have a child.

Speaking on ITV show Lorraine this morning, Hayden said that while he was delighted to be a dad, he found childbirth a tough experience.

“I don’t think I was ready at the time 100 per cent but now everything’s just gone to plan, fell into place and getting on great.

“I’m not going to lie, it was really strange and there was a lot of emotions and a lot of feelings and I wouldn’t advise anyone to do it because it was really hard, but if you do make sure you seek the right support.”

Trinity-Leigh, now 18 months, has brought Hayden and his family closer together, he added.

“I’m happy and my daughter is happy and that’s all that matters. We’re really close to my mum as my mum had a little boy around the same time.

“Our relationship is so much stronger now, I think it brought us together so it’s really positive.”

Hayden fell pregnant with the help of a sperm donor in 2016.

Since having Trinity-Leigh, Hayden has had his breasts removed. He said that he will have genital reassignment surgery when he is ready.
