“I tried to imagine how we’d heal:” Meghan Markle discusses miscarriage in candid opinion piece

“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Meghan Markle has discussed her recent miscarriage in a candid and emotive piece for New York Times.

In the opinion piece, the Duchess of Sussex wrote that she experienced a miscarriage in her Los Angeles home earlier this year. She said that she was changing baby Archie’s nappy when she felt “a sharp cramp.”

“I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second,” she wrote, as reported by Mail Online.

“After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.”

Meghan said that she experienced the miscarriage in July on a morning that “began as ordinarily as any other day.”

“Hours later, I lay in a hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand,” she continued. “I felt the clamminess of his palm and kissed his knuckles, wet from both our tears. Staring at the cold white walls, my eyes glazed over.

“I tried to imagine how we’d heal.”

Meghan and husband Prince Harry moved to the States earlier this year after announcing their decision to step back from their royal duties.
