The actress shared the crushing truth behind this picture.
Claire Holt has shared the heartbreaking news that she has suffered a miscarriage with followers on Instagram today.
The Originals actress posted a picture she took from her hospital bed just over a week ago right after she lost her baby and told her story.
“I took this photo 10 days ago, as I waited for surgery after my sweet little baby lost its heartbeat,” read the caption on her post.
“I sent it to my fiancé in the waiting room to show him that I was OK. I wasn’t.
“I’ve never felt more broken in my life.”
The actress went on to talk about her efforts to find solace in those who had gone through similar experiences.
“I spent hours on the internet searching for women who had been through it. I was desperate to find someone, anyone, who could relate to what I was feeling.
“Someone to tell me that the depression and hopelessness were normal.
“I found a community of women who shared my exact experience. Who were open and vulnerable about miscarriage, something that isn’t often or openly discussed.”
In that group of women, Claire found comfort and support and ultimately the strength to share her story with her own followers in the hopes of helping them get through their own trauma.
“Here is what I have learned as I begin to crawl out of the dark hole: support is everything.
“I could not have survived this without the unconditional love of my partner. As soon as I told my story, almost everyone I spoke to told me theirs – their own, their wife’s, their sister’s.
“To everyone out there who has been through a miscarriage, I understand you.
“I share every bit of your pain and you are not alone. “
The heartbreaking news comes just months after the actress shared news of her engagement.
Claire announced her engagement to her partner Andrew Joblon back in December, sharing a picture of her ring with the caption:
“My heart is so full.”
