Dieticians and nutritionists should probably look away now.
Over the course of three different pregnancies I discovered some very odd food combinations. Combos that I still indulge in to this day. Don’t judge me ladies.
Here are my top six weird discoveries from the 27 month period that I became a food vacuum:
1. Crisps & chocolate spread
This sweet and savoury dream come true works with either salt and vinegar or ready salted crips. Dip or spread, the choice is yours. Ok, I said don’t judge me.
2. Cream cheese on sour cream and onion crispsÂ
This is still one of my favourite snacks. Sandwich some cream cheese in between sour cream and onion crisps (you know the ones I’m talking about here) and you will go to a place from which there is no return. Your tastebuds will thank me, your waistline won’t.
3. Chips and ice-cream
The satisfaction of dipping a hot, crispy chip into soft, cold (preferably vanilla) ice cream is a gastronomical experience not to be sniffed at. Trust me, once you try this you will preach the word to non-believers.
4. Chips dipped in honey
This isn’t as out-there as it sounds. This discovery came about as a result of a craving I had for roasted parsnip chips drizzled in honey. Finding myself all out of parsnips at about midnight, I substituted with oven chips and whaddaya know… Life was never the same again.
5. Avocado and jam
There’s nothing than avocado can’t be paired with, at least in my humble opinion. The fleshy, oily, and creamy texture of the fruit (vegetable? who knows? who cares, it’s delicious) smothered in sweet, fruity jam is frankly a culinary revelation.
6. Marshmallows sprinkled on cheese nachos
I’m not going to discuss how this happened. It just happened one night. I have no regrets and I won’t apologise for it.
