I don’t know about you, but I am becoming more and more conscious about what I buy – both for myself and for my family as a whole.
Every day when we make purchases, we are casting a vote with our money, and directly and indirectly helping shape the kind of world we want to live in.
And this is why I now more and more make an effort to buy from small business. Buy local. And buy better.
If this is you too, then you are going to be so amazing about a really, really cool baby- and kids event that is taking place in Dublin later this month.
Fashionably Upending Black Friday – or FUBF – is the brainchild of Chaos + Harmony‘s Róisín Scott – and will be a spectacular one-day pop-up event at The Well, on Stephen’s Green.
“In a nutshell, there are very few opportunities for small businesses to trade at markets and events,” explains Scott. “Especially as the Dublin Christmas Flea is no longer, and other events can be very expensive and not financially viable for small and emerging businesses.”
While on maternity leave, Scott launched Chaos + Harmony back in 2016, an online family concept store specialising sustainable, unique and design-led children’s clothes an gifts. Since the beginning, the mum-of-two has organised and hosted several independent Pop-up events to help raise brand awareness for her own business – and also to support other small emerging businesses.
Last year, Scott hosted her first non-Black-Friday pop-up in Clontarf with four other small mum-run businesses. This year she wanted it to be bigger and even more inclusive.
Having attended the Sustainable Fashion Dublin event at The Well, Scott got an idea for an event and approached General Manager, Jacob Long, with her idea. His enthusiasm was evident immediately – and Fashionably Upending Black Friday – or #FUBF2019 was born.
Bringing together over 30 vendors all under one super cool roof, Chaos + Harmony and The Well Dublin presents #FUBF2019 on Friday 29th November. Kicking off at 10am and lasting all day until 6pm, the event promises to turn Black Friday on its head, and focus on supporting local independent businesses, instead of what we traditionally associate with Black Friday and the rush to nab bargains in the high street sales.
The Well is turning the entire venue space in to one big market filled with over 30 stalls of local Irish suppliers, sustainable fashion, crafts, arts, gifts, music and entertainment. It’s also a nod to the famous Dublin Dandelion Market which is where The Well event space is now located at Stephen’s Green.
Scott explains: “#FUBF2019 at The Well is a platform for local cottage industry to not just compete with the highstreet, but to stand on a level playing field with a powerful message – to choose sustainability and choose local.
