A dad made his breastfeeding wife a lactating cake – for a touching reason

Breastfeeding is no picnic so it's always wonderful when a mum's partner has her back, or in this case, her boobs.

A man from Wales recently came up with an odd creation for his one-year-old daughter Isabelle's birthday - a lactating cake. The cake, consisting of two boobs with some rather pointy pink nipples, actually emitted 'milk' (a mixture of icing sugar and water) on cue with the use of a tube and a syringe. Ross Hunt, the dad responsible, made it in honour of his wife Rachel, who had breastfed Isabelle for a whole year. We have to admit that the lactation made us feel a little queasy but Ross's reason for making the cake was very sweet. "Breastfeeding is bloody hard work," he wrote in a post on his blog Isablog. "Don’t get me wrong, I’m a man. So I don’t actually know what it’s like from a personal level. But I’ve been there every step of the way of my wife’s journey. "And I’ve seen the struggle that she’s had to go through to get to this point. He admitted he's felt helpless watching Rachel feed their daughter and did whatever he could to be useful. "I would sit up with her in the nights, try and read up on what I could to be able to help, and I’d run to the shop when she ran out of nipple cream. Even if it was absurdly overpriced. "It’s so easy to forget about those early day moments where it was such a challenge. The screaming, and the crying, sometimes not just from Isabelle. When I see Isabelle feeding now it’s like she’s a completely different baby. "This cake was just a reminder that we got through the hard times. But most importantly we got through them together." What a pet. Rachel's reaction to the cake was gas in itself but we're sure she's grateful to have such a support partner.
