Lucy Watson and her family are home again
Lucy Watson has revealed her son was admitted to hospital with RSV during the week in an emotional post online.
The mum is urging parents to beware of the symptoms of RSV following the terrifying ordeal.
She said her son is finally back home but it was a very difficult few days for her family.
She told her Instagram followers: “Grateful to all be back in our beds after the last two days in hospital with baby W. Sending love to anyone with a sick child.
“It’s so scary, but so important to trust your instincts with these things. Thank you to the NHS for looking after my baby.”
She added: “RSV season is on us. So so grateful for the child health and safety course we did when I was pregnant.
She continued: “Honestly because of this we knew the signs to look out for. Cannot recommend enough.”
Being aware of the symptoms of RSV is essential for all families.
You should seek medical advice straight away if you think your child has RSV.
The main symptoms include:
- cough
- wheezing
- runny nose
- difficulty feeding or decreased appetite
- fever (temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or higher)
- sore throat
These symptoms usually appear in stages and not all at once.
They will then develop into more serious symptoms like the below:
- increased breathing (more breaths per minute)
- wheezing
- difficulty feeding or decreased appetite
- less wet nappies
Your child can be treated at home but the HSE says to trust your instincts. Bring your child to your GP if you are worried about them or their symptoms worsen.
