Melissa Carton

This is shocking!

Holly and Phillip recently showed footage on their show This Morning demonstrating to their viewers the lasting damage that flushing wet wipes can do.

The footage was so horrifying that not even the presenters could stop the disgust from showing on their faces.

The wet wipe epidemic

Wet wipes are devastating our rivers and causing irreversible damage to our environment. In the UK, we flush some 9.3 million wet wipes. Every day. Will you say goodbye to wet wipes?

Over nine million wet wipes are flushed in the UK every day, with Ireland not far behind. A big contributing factor to this is toddler wipes which claim to be flushable but in actual fact are not.

The segment on This Morning showed a large mound of congealed and matted wet wipes slowly damaging the local environment.

The mound of wet wipes found reached 50 metres by 17 metres in size.

Deposits of wet wipes into our ecosystem can change the landscape of our rivers.

The segment presenter described how on one cleaning trip a group of volunteers collected over 23,000 wet wipes in only two hours.

Many environmentalists are calling for wet wipes to be banned and are urging parents to switch disposable wipes for re-useable fabric wipes.
