These 10 insanely romantic hotels are what Valentine’s was made for (start hinting now!)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Squeezing in time for romance when you are busy parents of young children can be tricky. To say the least.

But how about making some extra special time for each other this autumn by booking at stay at any of these insanely romantic hotels? We are talking scenery, food and atmosphere so sexy, you are bound to come home more in love than ever!

Disclaimer: Just don’t blame us if one thing leads to another and you come home with a little more than you bargained for… (AKA preggers). Unless that’s what you’re hoping for, in which case, by all means, be at it like bunnies all weekend long!

Anyway, if you are looking for a hotel break that is truly out of this world, we would hurry up and book here:

1. Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice (Italy)

The fact that George Clooney chose this very venue for his nuptials to the gorgeous Amal speaks volumes, no? This stunner of a hotel has gorgeous gardens and an enormous pool make this feel like a true hideaway. Couples can arrange private boat tours to hidden spots for small bites and sips of prosecco.

Take. Us. There.

2. Jamaica Inn, Ocho Rios (Jamaica)

If you fancy traveling a little further afield, this hotel is not only truly epic, it has some serious romantic history to boot, with Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller having spent their honeymoon at this very spot.

Each of the 48 suites has an outdoor living space, no televisions, clocks, or radios. Cottages have private pools and direct ocean access. Couples can book a two-hour moonlight massage surrounded by candles, followed by a glass of sparkling wine and private dinner overlooking the ocean.

Not too shabby, in other words.

3. The Chanler at Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island (US)

A romantic break stateside does not have to mean a few days in the Big Apple, guys. Why not head a little further north, and visit the gorgeous town of Newport, that is just as idyllic in winter as summer. The quiet off-season is the perfect time to book one of 20 uniquely designed rooms at the Chanler, filled with silk and velvet, overlooking ocean and beach (some with outdoor hot tubs). Weather permitting, couples can toast s’mores, wrapped in cozy blankets, by a fire pit on the lawn before a butler-drawn bath.

4. Four Seasons George V, Paris (France)

It is impossible to talk about romance and travel without including Paris in the list, so here you go. Why not treat yourselves and book a stay at one of the City of Light’s most stunning hotels, the Four Seasons George V. Guests here have the city at their doorstep, impressive views of the Eiffel Tower from the hotel’s private terrace and romance literally seeping out from the walls.

5. Grand Hotel Timeo, Sicily (Italy)

It’s the property’s dramatic location that sets Grand Hotel Timeo apart from all the rest, and you cannot help but be impressed by the view over the stunning Mount Etna. Locals may be blasé about the still-active volcano’s occasional minor eruptions but, should one take place during your stay, the flow of molten lava in the distance makes a sensational romantic backdrop. Oh, and did we mention that the hotel is a favourite with the fashion set, like designers Dolce and Gabbana…

6. Arctic Snow Hotel (Finland)

Romance doesn’t have to mean sandy beaches or sexy city streets, guys. At Finland’s Arctic Snow Hotel you get to spend the night in a glass-roofed igloo, witnessing the magnificent Northern Lights. Sightings are never guaranteed, but it’s a dazzling and uniquely romantic spectacle if you do.

7. Ballyfin House, Co. Laois (Ireland)

Set on a 600-acre demesne in the beautiful Laois countryside, Ballyfin is one of Ireland’s most important neoclassical houses and an absolute perfect venue for a tres romantic break away from the kiddos. Oh, and don’t miss the spa, girls. Out. Of. This. World.

8. The Caledonian, Edinburgh (Scotland)

A Waldorf Astoria property (always a good sign), the Caledonian hotel in Edinburgh overlooks the city’s imposing castle and is well placed for jaunts into the Highlands. (Think romantic walks, dressed in your finest tartan scarves and Hunter wellies…) Oh, and if that’s not enough, the French inspired restaurant and the Guerlain spa are not too bad either…

9. Six Senses, Koh Samui (Thailand)

Koh Samui is possibly my favourite place in the world (if you haven’t been, you have got to go!), and when it comes to hotels where romance will literally take the front-seat, check yourself into the Six Senses, and enjoy astonishing views from your private wooden villa. And if Thai food is your thing (and how could it not be?!), the restaurant here is know as one of the finest on the island.

The 12-hour flight, you say? Worth. Every. Minute.

10. Kasbah Tamadot, Atlas Mountains (Morocco)

Morocco is one of the hottest travel destination these days (the food, the medinas, the amazing rugs you will be tempted to bring home…), and if you are looking for some secluded romance, the Kasbah Tamadot is where you should book. The hotel, located at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, is far removed from crowds and noise but – should you miss them – Marrakech is a 45-minute drive away.

Tip: The most romantic rooms are the nine Berber tented suites, which each include a king-sized bed, large soaking tubs with mountain views, a terrace with private plunge pool and outdoor dining area.
