3 kid-friendly (and fabulous) Irish homes you can book for a staycation right now

Trine Jensen-Burke

Fancy a few days away, but not keen on the stress (and cost) of having to fly off somewhere?

Relax – there are plenty of opportunity to get away from it all and enjoy some amazing family time, full of adventure and fun, right here in Ireland.

We are slightly obsessed with home rental site Kid & Coe – pretty much the Airbnb for families – only seriously more stylish and with even more curated homes.

Right now, we have rounded up 3 gorgeous homes you can rent across Ireland – and prepare to want to book into them all right now:

1. Co. Leitrim

This quiet, comfortable whitewashed cottage in the lee of the Dartry Mountains in County Leitrim sleeps up to 5 and is the perfect away-from-it-all retreat. Located on Truskmore overlooking the picturesque Glenade Valley, it is surrounded by an acre of land and is a world away from busy city life. The nearest village is 10 minutes away by car, and the coast is 15 minutes away. Best of all, the Eagles Rock Trail starts 300m from the cottage, so you can hike to the top of nearby mountains and enjoy views of Donegal Bay. Warm up after your adventures around the cozy woodburning stove.

2. Co. Sligo

This architect-designed home with captivating views and mid century design touches is 5 minutes drive from Strandhill and well set up for young children. Well set up for a family, it has a family bathroom with shower and bath and a privately situated spare bedroom on the other side of the house, well suited for a nanny or au-pair. A wonderful retreat, the house is just outside Strandhill village, the adventure capital of Ireland, and only 10 minutes from Sligo town.

The home has a great playroom with books, toys and an Apple TV in the playroom. There is lots of room to run around and the house is all on 1 level, so scooters and skateboards are welcome. The house is south-facing and is bathed in sunlight all day long. Totally baby-friendly, it has a travel crib and 2 high-chairs, and all toilet training facilities can be provided. Nearby family-friendly attractions include the beach at Strandhill, where there are watersports activities including SUP, surfing and kayaking, and dunes to run up and down.

3. Co. Wexford

This warm and inviting 200-year-old cottage on a stunning 3 acres of mature grounds near Kilmore Quay, between Waterford and Wexford, includes a private river, orchard and converted stable for exciting and peaceful family adventures. It’s an ideal home base for spotting wildlife, paddling the river, accessing local beaches and exploring the sunny southeast of Ireland.

Kids of all ages love the game room with chalkboard and games table, converted stone stable house with a pool table, and 3 acres of gardens to roam. They include a putting green, ample space for pitch and putt challenges, a tyre swing, and a wooden swing set for good, old-fashioned fun. The small private river is gated and a great spot for paddling, making boats and watching the wildlife together. Books, DVDs and board games included for indoor entertainment. A travel crib and high chair are provided.
