3 stunning – and child-friendly – homes you can rent in Ireland this summer

Trine Jensen-Burke

Yet to plan your staycation this summer?

Hotels can be expensive, and with young children, we love the freedom it gives to rent a home – knowing you can cook when you feel like it, and have the space for toys, mess and play while you are away.

When it comes to finding homes that are not only lovely, but also child-friendly, we love Kid & Coe – the most stylish, easy to navigate and parent- and child-friendly home rental site out there.

They have homes to rent all over the globe, but as it looks like summer 2021 will be yet another summer spent close-ish to home, here are three absolutely gorgeous properties you can rent in Ireland this summer:

1. The Dromoland House

4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

Dromoland, Co. Claire

Perks for the Parents

This architect-designed, child-friendly home on the beautiful west coast of the Emerald Isle has countryside views and immaculate interior spaces. It sleeps up to 9 + 2. The open plan living and dining area is ideal for family life, while there’s plenty of space outside to play and hang out. There is a lower level bedroom/bathroom/outdoor space, which may be ideal for a nanny / additional family.

It’s a six-minute drive or 30-minute walk to the plush 5-star 16th-century Dromoland Castle Hotel where you’ll find restaurants, an 18-hole championship golf course and spa, plus archery, clay shooting, falconry and trout fishing.

Why Kids Love it

This is usually home to three children under six, so it’s child-proofed and child-ready with games, toys and a large, grassy garden with a trampoline, swing set and outdoor toys. The nearby hotel has an indoor and outdoor play area for children and there is horse riding nearby. A crib, high chair and baby toys can be provided on request, as well as additional requests for child-friendly items, within reason. Ten minutes drive away is Bunratty Castle & Folk Park – an ancient castle to explore and a 19th century Ireland recreated with over 30 buildings in a living village. Beaches are close by too.

Things to Know

Minimum stay: Five nights. Safety notes: children should be supervised on the balcony and around the wood-burning stove. The garden has an electric gate to the road. The hosts will provide information on the local area and amenities.

Dromoland is overshadowed by the 16th-century castle – now a hotel – a 15-minute walk, it makes a great jumping-off point to tour the vistas, seascapes, white-sand beaches and distinctive culture of this remarkable area.
