5 STUNNING and child-friendly places to rent in Italy this summer

Who isn’t dreaming of spending some time in Italy, eating all the pasta and gelato, sipping an Aperol Spritz while taking in the sunset and generally just feeling all the things you are supposd to feel while on vacation?

Yep, us too.

Which is why we are currently trawling the Kid & Coe website, and guys – just take a look at some of these stunning – and kid-friendly –properties that are available to rent in Italy this summer:

1. Tuscany

The Villa Apicius

This sensational 1-floor apartment with a shared pool in the heart of Tuscany is an exquisite example of modern Tuscan design, with muted earth tones, designer furniture and exposed brickwork. The spacious rooms are bathed in light and include a master bedroom and second bedroom with 3 twin beds. Bathrooms are finished with marble. The open plan living space is ideal for entertaining; a fully-equipped kitchen makes life easier. Situated among the villages, vineyards and golden hills of Tuscany, the property has a huge shared garden, free tennis court, swimming pools, playground and a parking space. There is a restaurant onsite and a bakery delivers bread and pastries each morning.

2. Perugia

The Alba Residence

In the heart of rural Perugia, this 2-bedroom apartment with a pool is extremely well set up for families with children of all ages. It is part of a boutique estate sharing play areas, pools and facilities, including cooking classes, English-speaking babysitters and massages for adults. Homemade arrival and evening meals are available any time and there is a weekly pizza making evening for all families. Local delights include pretty villages, water parks, Lake Trasimeno and plenty of cultural towns, including Montepulciano and Arezzo, an hour’s drive away.

The estate has 2 play areas with swings, slides and climbing frames and 2 swimming pools, 1 for toddlers and 1 with a diving board and shallow area. There is also a full sized gypsy caravan and wooden train with a carriage plus a zip wire and tree house.

3. Verona

The Catulla Valerio Residence

This smart, sleek apartment in the heart of Verona, 500m from Piazza Brà, is a great base for visiting the city’s classical sights. It is modern and has plenty of amenities including a washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine and hairdryer. A crib and high chair are available on request. Guests are welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco.

The apartment is central to the city’s key sights, making it easy to visit them with kids in tow. There is plenty of space. The host can provide information on a guide who runs great city tours for families. There is a playground near Castelvecchio Bridge, a 10-minute walk away, called Arsenale.

4. Lake Como

The Colico Residence

This apartment in a stylishly renovated rural house is close to Colico on Lake Como and is just 10 minutes’ walk from some of the lake’s most beautiful and secluded beaches. Access to the house is along the romantic beach of the Laghetto di Piona; the location is great for excursions and walks, with plenty of the area’s most iconic lakeside towns easy to reach by boat or car from Colico. The house is modern and minimal throughout with 2 bedrooms plus a garden surrounded by a nature reserve.

The house is great for children of all ages, and has a dedicated children’s bedroom with bunk beds. Toys for children under 10 are provided. In the nearby village of Colico there are sailing and windsurfing schools for children in summer, and also a playground. Local restaurants are family friendly. Fun day trips nearby include boat trips around the lake and to lakeside towns and villages. A travel crib for children under 3 and a high chair are available.

5. Puglia

The Tenuta Dell’alto Residence

This luxury villa, surrounded by 10 acres of private land and with views of vineyards and olive groves, has been renovated from near abandonment to incredible beauty with design touches to die for. It sleeps up to 14 + 2. The villa is simply huge with ample space inside and out and grounds that include orchards, vegetable gardens and an infinity pool, so that everybody can find their own special place to sit, nap, read, play or enjoy the views. The generously-sized bedrooms all have large private baths. Rustle up a feast from the local market in the gourmet kitchen, or ask the staff to prepare a farm-to-table meal served on the outdoor pergola. You’ll eat most of your meals surrounded by Mediterranean flowering plants, herbs and roses. The pool, with a shallow area for little kids and a large grass area in front for playing are visually connected to the house. Parents will be pleased to know that there is a wine cellar with more than 300 bottles of wine to enjoy.

Guests are provided with 6 bikes for exploring the countryside and to go shopping, bocce balls and other games for playing outdoors. There are kids’ toys and books too. The grounds are safe for children and ripe for their own adventures with an organic vegetable garden, walled orange grove, formal garden, chicken coop and a fruit orchard. Children will delight in picking their own grapes, oranges, figs, pomegranates, quinces, citruses, prickly pears and vegetables, and collecting organic eggs from the chickens each morning.
