7 fun (and educational) places around Ireland to bring the kids to this summer

Trine Jensen-Burke

Brought to you by POM-BEAR.

The summer holidays are fast approaching and surely not the only ones who are thinking about what to do with the kids.

Well, fear not, parents.

We have rounded up seven great family days out across Ireland – bound to get the kids excited enough to leave both iPads and game consoles behind.

What are you waiting for?

1. Galway Atlantaquaria

Head west this summer to Galway and the amazing Atlantaquaria.

Here, at the National Aquarium Of Ireland, kids can watch the fish and other sea creatures being fed, have a little feel at the touch pools and learn all about how we can all help protect our wonderful sea life and species.

For more information, check out their website here.

2. Imaginosity

Play, learn, explore, build, make-believe, and have fun at Ireland’s only dedicated children’s museum.

There is no denying that children learn best when they are having fun, and Imaginosity champions the ‘hands-on, minds-on’ philosophy that encourages all visitors to get involved and have fun while learning and create positive and lasting memories.

A fun day out for the whole family.

3. The “Dead Zoo”

Although the official name of this museum is (of course) Museum Of Natural History, to any local, it will forever be known as “the dead zoo” – a name that refers to the hundreds of zoological models and actual real dead (and stuffed) animals you will find here.

Just show us the child who wouldn’t love to discover giant deer skeletons, walk under the belly of a ginormous giraffe and learn about a variety of mammals, birds, and fish from Ireland and around the world.

For more information, check out their website here.

4. Funtasia Water Park

Pack your swimsuits in the car and head to Drogheda for a day of aquatic fun for the whole family.

There are slides, a pirate cove, a play area, a fairground, a climbing wall, crazy golf, a zip line, and a whole lot more fun… both in the water and on dry land.

For more information, check out their website here.

5. Ulster Museum

Belfast; here we come!

Come face to face with dinosaurs, meet an Ancient Egyptian mummy and see modern masterpieces with a visit to the Ulster Museum.

As Northern Ireland’s treasure house of the past and present, this museum is home to a rich collection of art, history and natural sciences.

For more information, check out their website here.

6. Fota Island Wildlife Park

Have YOU been to Ireland’s wildest attraction yet?

Get up close with wild animals, play, explore and learn about the very important conservation work that is being done at Fota Island.

For more information, check out their website here.

7. Airfield

Did you know you can visit a real, fully functioning farm in the middle of Dublin City?

At Airfield in Dundrum, you can explore the 38-acre farm gardens and house, have a coffee and bite to eat in the café – where the food used comes from the farm itself.

Pet the baby lambs, watch the donkeys being fed and explore the trails leading you to the playground and zip line. Oh, and don’t miss the brilliant climbing trees too.
