Whatever the weather, there is plenty to explore in Dublin.

When you’re in Dublin, there are plenty of indoor activities guaranteed to keep the entire family entertained this summer. From unique museums to indoor adventure centres, you’ll find plenty of ways to fill those long summer days during the school holidays.

So banish boredom by treating your children to an exciting day out in the city. Here are some of our top choices for family fun activities in the capital:

The National Wax Museum Plus

From historical figures, to beloved characters to iconic celebrities, the National Wax Museum Plus on Westmoreland Street boasts a wide selection of uncanny wax sculptures. The museum’s fantasy world – Wax World – is geared entirely towards children, and is full of their familiar favourites, from Harry Potter to Peppa Pig. Your little ones can also take time out to colour and draw in the creative corner, or they can climb the walls of the 3D Twister.

Afterwards, check out the Science and Discovery realm. Through interactive games, experiments and figures, your children can learn about some of Ireland’s most brilliant inventors, engineers and scientists.

Aquazone at the National Aquatic Centre

You don’t need immaculate weather to spend the day swimming – grab your togs and head to Blanchardstown for a day out at the National Aquatic Centre.

Let your little ones clamber aboard the Pirate Ship which is decked out with small slides, cannons and a child safe pool. To experience the fun of surfing in a safe environment, grab a bodyboard and try out the Flow Rider. Bigger kids will love Aquazone’s waterslides – the Master Blaster, The Green Giant and, if they’re brave enough, The Dark Hole. And don’t worry, there is plenty for parents to enjoy too. Float along the Lazy River, or kick back and relax in the Bubble Pool.

JumpZone Santry

As well as being a hugely popular birthday party destination, JumpZone in Santry makes for a brilliant day out.

Book an Open Jump session and let your little ones bounce to their hearts’ content as they explore Europe’s largest indoor inflatable sports adventure park. JumpZone features a six-meter drop slide, two obstacle courses, warped walls and an inflatable dodgeball court. JumpZone’s main inflatable zone is suitable for children aged five and over, but younger kids can have their own fun in JumpZone’s dedicated toddler area.

Dublinia

Dublin is home to some fascinating Viking history, and this summer is the perfect time to take a deep dive into our past.

Located in the heart of the city, Dublinia invites families to step back in time and experience life in Viking and Medieval Ireland. Try on Viking clothes, climb onboard a warship, learn the myths and mysteries of Viking Dublin and get a glimpse into a Viking house.

At the end of your visit, you’ll even get to climb an original Medieval tower and take in some spectacular views of the city.

Vintage Tea Trips

Treat your children with this unique day out in Dublin. This 1950s double-decker bus will give the whole family a taste of old-school Dublin – and the kids will love it too.

Watch out for some of Dublin’s most beloved sites and attractions while tucking into a delicious afternoon tea. Enjoy freshly-made sandwiches, cakes and pastries as you delve into the heart of the city. You’ll pass by St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College, St. Stephen’s Green and the grand buildings of Georgian Dublin as smooth 1950s jazz provides the afternoon’s soundtrack.

The Ark

Nestled in the buzzy Temple Bar is The Ark, a cultural centre dedicated entirely to children’s entertainment. This summer, The Ark has an incredible line-up of events geared towards children of all ages in their child-sized theatre.

Theatre, dance and visual art are just some of the performances taking place this summer, but The Ark also offers exciting interactive workshops and summer camps throughout the holidays to spark your child’s creativity.

The Natural History Museum

If your children love animals and are fascinated by nature, then a trip to the Natural History Museum is bound to delight them.

Affectionately referred to as the ‘Dead Zoo’, this museum has a long history, dating all the way back to the Victorian era. The building is impressive in itself, but its exhibits are truly fascinating. Inquisitive and curious children can lose themselves in the museum’s zoological collection, which includes a collection of Irish fauna and mammals of the world. The best part? Admission is totally free.

EPIC – The Irish Immigration Museum

EPIC, an award-winning museum on Dublin’s quays, takes visitors on a journey designed to connect them with their past.

This attraction invites guests to move beyond Irish stereotypes and embrace our heritage through stories of Irish emigrants. Learn about the scientists, poets, politicians, musicians, sports stars and artists who left their mark on the world’s stage through this fully interactive experience. After exploring the stories of over 300 Irish emigrants, you and your children will leave with an unshakeable sense of pride.
