Looking for something to do this month with the kids?
This January EPIC’s education team has a host of virtual and in person workshops for all the family to enjoy.
From celebrating the life of pioneering Irish-American journalist Nellie Bly in our EPIC Explorers to Tiny Tots virtual workshops, there’s something for everyone.
Nellie Bly Museum Pop-up – January 22nd (11:00 – 13:00)
Included as part of a general entry ticket, drop by our storytelling gallery to step on a life-size board game from the 1890s, depicting the story of Nellie Bly, the pioneering Irish-American woman who became one of the very first investigative journalists.
Hear how she reported from the front lines of war, went undercover in an asylum and broke world records when she completed an around-the-world journey in a mere 72 days. See if you have what it takes to take on the challenge!
Tiny Tots: Around the World with Nellie Bly – January 22nd (10:30 – 11:30)
Suitable for ages 6 and under and delivered via Zoom, in this interactive storytelling session you and your tot will sing songs, draw pictures and meet a whole host of characters.
This month, investigative journalist Nellie Bly is packing to go on a whistle-stop around the world adventure, but needs your help to complete it in record-breaking time!
Help her navigate the globe, and go on a different sensory adventure in each country you visit, from evading pirates out at sea to meeting monkeys in Singapore, and beyond!
EPIC Explorers: Around the World with Nellie Bly – January 22nd (13:00 – 14:00)
Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years old, meet Nellie Bly and go on a journey with her as she tries to beat a world record, racing around the world in 72 days.
Discover her life story, help her pack and then navigate the globe and complete fun activities in each country you visit in order to make it to the next destination. Solve riddles, translate your name into Egyptian, learn a few new phrases in different languages and write a newspaper report, among much more.
Along the way discover how the roles of women have changed over the last 100+ years, comparing Nellie’s time to now. All you need is some paper and simple art materials like markers or crayons to take part!
