Family day out: There is an amazing new science and sports center open in Dublin

Trine Jensen-Burke

Ireland’s favourite new family day out.

If you are looking for something fun to do (perfect for all these still-not-very-warm March weekends!) this spring, we think the whole family is going to love Explorium, Ireland’s brand new Sport & Science Centre in Sandyford, Dubiln.

At Explorium, you can challenge your mind and body with over 300 interactive science and sport experiences – and fear not, there’s something for every age and ability.

Test your speed and agility in one of the sports science areas, create a blockbuster in Movieworld, create a song with a lazer harp and even defy gravity in the amazing Gravity Rooms.

One experience we bet is going to go down a treat with all kids is the World’s Largest Indoor Manmade Caving Structures – over 150 metres in length and will make you crawl, twist and scramble your way through the amazing network of tunnels.

This fantastic structure, which is open to over 8s, will ensure you’ll be pushed to your limits climbing, sliding and wriggling your way through the extensive tunnel network, find fossils and solve tasks along the way which will help build your confidence and ability to decision make in a team environment.

The caving experience at Explorium lasts for an hour and includes a 15-minute safety briefing with Explorium’s team of experts at which you will be fully kitted out with everything you need to be the ultimate explorer.

And if that’s not enough, you can also choose to conquer the climbing walls for an hour’s session testing your courage and agility. There are two types of climbing available and each climb is designed with fun and fitness in mind.

Admission prices to Explorium range from €12 to €28 and it caters for ages 2 -100+.
