Italy Just Opened A Free 24-Hour Wine Fountain (And We’ll Race You There!)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Apparently, dreams really do come true.

At least in Italy they do, where a fountain (fountain!) dispensing a free flow of locally produced red wine around the clock has just been opened in the town of Caldari di Ortona, just outside Rome.

The fontana del vino was installed by angels living among us (or, you know, if you want to be technical, by the owners of the Dora Sarchese vineyard…) and is situated along the popular pilgrimage route Cammino di San Tommaso that runs between Rome to Ortona.

According to Conde Nast Traveler, the winemakers were inspired by a similar fountain along the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain and teamed up with the nonprofit that maintains the Cammino di San Tommaso to bring their locally produced wine to anyone who desires it.

In fact, a post to their Facebook page reads, “Fountain of Wine is a welcome, the Fountain of Wine is poetry.” However, they also add that it is not to be used for “drunkards” or “louts.”

Can we go now, please?!
