New Budget Airline To Start Offering €62 Flights From Cork To Boston

Fancy a little jaunt to the States, but bank account not quite up for it?

Well, have we got some great news for you.

According to the Independent, Norwegian, one of Europe’s fastest growing budget airlines, has now booked slots to fly from Cork airport to Boston from early next year – for fares as low as €62 for a one-way ticket.

The airline, which has the newest fleet of planes in Europe, has already been offering extremely low-cost European and long-haul fares to the US and South East Asia from their hubs in Scandinavia for some time now, and is now set to shake up the Irish travel market by the sound of it.

“I can promise you that you will see transatlantic flights on the 737 Max next year,” Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Ramdahl said. “And that’s when you will see the $69 fares.”

The airline says that their fuel-efficient new planes will reduce the cost of transatlantic travel, which in turn will allow for the lower fares. At the moment, Norwegian offers flights from London Gatwick to Boston from around €157 each way, which is still pretty good value, we think, even though they promise that the Cork route will be even more affordable.

The expansion into the Irish market has been on the cards for a while for Norwegian, after the airline was granted permission under the Open Skies agreement. The non-EU, Norwegian-owned airline managed this by launching their Irish subsidiary, Norwegian Air International Limited.

Well, we don’t know about you, but we are thinking springtime in Boston sounds pretty amazing right about now!
