From Cork: Bus it to Blarney for a blooming brilliant day
A unique chance to enjoy one of Ireland's most famous sights for a bargain €8, Blarney In Bloom takes place on Sunday, July 9th (10am to 5pm) in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The castle grounds will be packed with stunning plants from local nurseries, children's entertainment and a farmer's market and the entry fee includes full access to the Poison Garden, the Ice House, the Wishing Steps and the Fairy Glade... prepare for a mystical afternoon's exploring!
From Waterford: Plan a big day out on Big Strand
The bus service from Waterford City to Tramore operates seven days a week, so why not use July's free child LEAP card travel to turn it into your very own sandcastle express? Literally meaning “Big Strand”, Tramore boasts 5km of golden, sandy beach.
After a paddle in the waves and a picnic, take in the breathtaking views from the cliffs and surrounding areas or enjoy a stroll in the Japanese Gardens. Finish a perfect summer day with fish and chips (best eaten outdoors from the brown paper bag while relishing the sea air - bliss!).
From Galway: Round up the gang for a family splash-about
A rainy day doesn't have to equate to an afternoon spent in front of the telly; with free travel for kids, you can use your Leap cards to seek out some summer fun.
If you're Galway based, grab your swimsuits and towels and head for Leisureland Salthill. With three swimming pools to choose from (a six-lane competitive, deck level pool complete with a thrilling 65m water slide and giant Commando Run Inflatable Obstacle Course) this is a trip that's sure to get pulses racing (and ensure everyone's tired enough to fall into bed later in the evening!).
Seriously... what kid wouldn't be over the moon about spending a day bouncing around on this thing...
From Limerick: Become king (or queen) for a day
King John's Castle brings to life over 800 years of dramatic local history with costumed guides who reveal the secrets and scandals of the time.
The brother of Richard the Lionheart, associated with legends such as Robin Hood and the Knights’ of the Round Table. John, Lord of Ireland, minted his own coins, some of which can be seen among over 1,000 objects excavated from the site, including skeletal remains.
Not only is there plenty to keep little minds engaged and entertained, the views from this medieval fortress are breathtaking so bring the camera. You can download some fact sheets here to get the gang excited on the bus.
Under 19s can travel for free with a child Leap card from July 3-16, 2017. Just use your child card as normal and you won't be charged! For more information, click here.
