Planning A Hen? Try Something Different With A Downton-Themed Party

Sharyn Hayden

This. Looks. Like. The. Craic.

We are obsessed with Downton Abbey here at HerFamily.ie – I mean, what’s not to love what with the scandal, the accents, TOM, the unbelievable fashion and of course, our bitchy pal The Dowager.

Well, if you are also obsessed and planning a memorable hens party for someone, then this could be what you’ve been looking for!

Clonard House in Mullingar is a majestic Victorian House in the middle of Mullingar which has been brought back to life and now hosts Downton Abbey-themed party events called A Victorian Escapade‘.

On arrival, everyone dresses as servants to do some of the household chores, perhaps prepare a dessert, have a chamber pot race, set the table, light the fire under the watchful eye of the butler.

Everyone then changes attire in the dressing room to become lords and ladies before moving upstairs to the drawing room for some parlour games, a traditional dance and, of course, a few photos for the society pages.

The fun finishes with afternoon tea in the dining room where you have the honour of being the guests at a rather grand party.

Love this idea? Why not throw your own Grand Affair by renting your own manor house –  get everyone to dress up, serve G&T’s and dance the night away. You could always ‘Paper Scissors Rock’ for the positions of Lord and Lady of the house!

Here are 3 more fine manor homes that you can hire out privately in Ireland:

1. Coolmore Manor House, Co. Donegal
