10 Reasons To Sneak Away For A Romantic Night Away (Like You Needed ANY!)

Dennehy Jennie

Hotel breaks used to be a nice leisurely way to break up the year. But once you become a mum and it’s a chance for a child-free weekend, they become the stuff of dreams.

Here’s why:

1. Logistically it’s a doddle. No need for lists, arrangements or routines. You can do what you like when you like. You’ll also wonder why you used to complain about packing; when you’ve only got yourself to think about it, it couldn’t be easier.

2. Take a long bath or better still, visit the spa. Let the warm water wash your worries away without panicking that you’ve used up all the hot water.

3. Go for a leisurely stroll. You may have forgotten how relaxing walks can be without having to stop every five minutes for a mini meltdown.

4. You can take ownership of the remote control. Flick to your hearts content or settle down to watch a complete episode of your favourite show. The choice is yours.

5. Sleep however much you like. Fancy a siesta, even though you’re still in Ireland, go for it. Eaten too much for dinner and need a quick snooze before drinks – no problem.

6. You can dress up and even wear white without the horror of chocolatey hands.

7. Have a few glasses of wine without the fear of the hangover the next morning. Yes, you’ll still get the thumping head but you can rest without being screamed at or jumped on – bliss.

8. You can read a bedtime story… to yourself. The only thing you’ll miss is the pictures.

9. Order breakfast in bed. Someone else can cook and wash up, and to top it off, you get to eat it while it’s still hot with no interruptions.

10. Peace and quiet. Sometimes all you need to rejuvenate yourself is some alone time with your own thoughts without being yelled at. Excel in the knowledge you will NOT be bothered – unless the childminder has a meltdown.
