Travel chaos as rail strike goes ahead

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Families who rely on public transport have been plunged into chaos this morning, as the train drivers’ strike gets underway.

Commuters have been forced to put that Friday feeling on hold as they get to grips with long delays – all services that were due to depart between 6am and 9am have been cancelled, with the resulting confusion expected to cause havoc with the day’s train schedule.

Dublin Bus has warned that the overflow of frantic passengers is likely to make their services busier than usual, while AA Roadwatch is also asking road users to expect ‘significant delays.’

All efforts to avert the strike collapsed last night, with the stoppage, affecting all rail services, Dart, commuter and inter-city, going ahead as planned this morning and a second strike planned for Friday, November 6.

Online customers who are booked to travel during the hours of disruption can ujse their tickets until Saturday.
