Today, nearly 200 artists and arts professionals from all over Europe are arriving in Galway for Wide Eyes – a once-off arts event for children.

And it promises to be something completely unique.

The event, which will see 15 different theatre and dance shows from as many different countries being presented for children aged aged 0 – 6, will run from today until Sunday,

Hosted by Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, Wide Eyes promises to be a feast of theatre and dance shows from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, UK and Ireland.

And made especially for babies and children, these will no doubt both thrill and entertain for four jam-packed days, and is a unique opportunity for parents and young children to share precious time together.

Wide Eyes offers a host of shows to choose from addressing themes of friendship, family, home and belonging, and the courage to be different. Children will discover what nature can reveal to us and there’s even a dance show for visually impaired audiences, which will explore what dance sounds and feels like.

The concept for Wide Eyes is rooted in the belief that children are never too young to quite literally have their eyes opened wide in amazement while they experience the performing arts.

This is what Aislinn ÓhEocha, Baboró’s Executive Artistic Director had to say about Wide Eyes: “At Baboró we believe you’re never too young to be an audience member so we’re very excited about hosting this major one-off event dedicated exclusively to children aged 0 – 6 years.”

“The Arts Council is delighted to support Baboró in hosting Wide Eyes,” says Director of The Arts Council, Orlaith McBride. “We see this as an excellent opportunity for families and children in early childhood care and education settings to experience imaginative work by Irish and international artists.

Wide Eyes is suitable for babies and children aged 0-6 and is hosted by Baboró International Arts Festival for Children. It will take place in Galway from Thursday 1st Feb – Sunday 4th February 2018. The full programme can be viewed here, and tickets are available from the Town Hall Theatre on 091 569 777 or online at https://tht.ie
