This insane new waterpark has us dying to get away

Louise Carroll

Universal Orlando Resort recently opened its Volcano Bay water theme park and it’s definitely one to add to the top of our destination list.

Sure, it might be a few more miles away than our usual holiday destinations, but this is the stuff memories are made of. Whether it’s a family holiday with the kids or simply a fun escapade with a few friends it’s going to be worth splashing out.

The park boasts an abundance of outstanding sights—captivating visitors in the midst of an immense tropical paradise. With a 200 foot tall volcano—named Krakata—right in the centre of the park it makes for a truly magnificent scene among a sea of vivid colours and trickling water.

Over 18 thrilling attractions are surrounded by waterfalls, sound effects and lava effects at night, so it also makes lounging and moments of relaxation easy to indulge in throughout the park too. For the most part, you can expect to be spending most of the day on waterslides—shimmying through mountain-sides and gliding under waterfalls.

Replacing the infamous Wet ‘n Wild theme park, the new tropical themed park is the first to be constructed by Universal itself. Universal Orlando also added some contemporary features for when it comes to making our way through queues and helping us to avoid tired feet after such an adventurous day.

Guests can follow Universal’s social channels for real-time updates regarding rides but they can also use the TapuTapu wearable which enables them to hold their place in queues for the different attractions. Essentially the visitor decides what time they plan to go on any chosen ride—a bit like a booking system—so more time can be spent having a great time. The wearable can also be used to make cash-free payments throughout the park and it’s also the key to opening your locker. And yes, they have made sure they’re water-proof. How handy we say.
