A sneak peek inside one of Killarney’s most beloved family attractions…

With the summer holidays just around the corner, you’re probably not the only parent brainstorming ways to keep the kids occupied over the coming months.

If you’re looking for a day trip that combines Victorian history, old Irish heritage, incredible scenic surrounds and some exciting activities for little ones, Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms is sure to tick all of those boxes and more.

Kickstart your visit with a tour of Muckross House, a nineteenth century Victorian mansion overlooking Killarney National Park. Mostly unchanged since Queen Victoria visited here in 1861, you can explore the elegantly furnished rooms and learn more about those who lived and worked here.

Continue your journey back in time with a visit to the Traditional Farms, complete with farm animals, a petting area, a playground and a bouncy castle. As well as meeting some furry friends, you’ll also get to learn more about life on a 1930s working farm and follow the mná tí (women of the house) as they go about their daily chores such as baking bread and making butter from scratch.

Following that, you and your family can explore the vast and scenic Muckross Gardens, the focal point of Killarney National Park. With so many scenic hidden gems waiting to be discovered, it’s the perfect spot to base yourself for an active day out in Kerry.

You can enjoy all of this with a family ticket to tour the House and Traditional Farms for just €28 (2 adults & 2 kids). More on that HERE.

When it’s time to refuel, enjoy casual dining in the spacious Muckross Garden Restaurant. Their conservatory and garden terrace has some breath taking views of Torc Mountain and Killarney’s famous National Park, and you can choose something to nibble on from an extensive lunch menu or their selection of snacks.

And if you’re looking for something to remember the trip with, browse the Muckross Craft Centre’s huge collection of gifts and clothing, including a range of locally made gifts that embrace Muckross pottery, weaving and bookbinding.
