The Christmas holidays are coming up and we bet you and the kids are just hankering for a little break away.
Well, there is certainly one on the cards if we have anything to say about it. And what better way to spend your trip than petting sharks and touching sea urchins? (We actually mean it though!) Exploris Aquarium in Portaferry, Co. Down are giving away a lovely little overnight stay in the town, plus a family pass to their aquarium.
The aquarium is home to a huge variety of sea and river life, including small sharks, otters, clownfish (play your own game of Finding Nemo!), and rescue seals. Everyone will get their own expedition passport before entering the aquarium, which they can get stamped as they make their way through the different zones (what better for the little explorers?).
There are oodles of creatures to see and learn about. You and the kids will be kept occupied for hours! Every day there is seal and otter feeding and at the weekends the public are allowed to watch the shark feeding too. If your little ones are fascinated by those sharp-toothed fish, they’ll even get the chance to give their bellies a little tickle (don’t worry, these are only mini sharks – no Great Whites here).
If the kids do start getting a little restless and need to blow off some steam, there’s an aqua-themed soft play area called Jiggly Jellies that has slides, ball pools, climbers, swings, and loads of other fun stuff for the little ones.
Exploris Aquarium’s giveaway also includes lunch in their own café, appropriately named The Cracken, so no one will go hungry.
The overnight stay will be at the Portaferry Hotel, which is only a two minute walk from the aquarium and has stunning views of The Strangford Lough. Not a sight to be missed.
