5 minute wake-up routine that will get you going in the morning

HerFamily

The best way to be full of energy for your day ahead is to get up in the right way. What is ‘the right way’ we hear you say? Well, like us, you’re most likely waking up feeling like you’ve never slept (and it’s quite possible you have not slept), but we’ve discovered that by adding all or even one of these little changes to your morning, it makes a major difference to you day. (Promise).

And you never know, someday soon, you might actually have a few extra minutes in the morning to do all of these, but if you adopt at least one, you’ll put a little pep in your step.

Here’s a warm-up for your wake-up:

1. Move your body

Stretch to your toes from your standing position and stay there for 20 seconds. Put your hands on your hips and return to the standing position. If you want to spend an extra minute, do these facial exercise too.

2. Smell nice

Rose water is a natural eye-de-puffer but has lots of other cool uses. Use it first thing to refresh the skin as a natural toner (it smells so gorgeous) and fill a small spray bottle to pop in your handbag for a little re-energising jolt during the day. Buy it in any health food shop.

3. Feed your face

Remove eye cream from the fridge. Use eye cream sparingly – a pea-sized amount is enough between both eyes.

4. Drink

Drop a slice of lemon into hot water and sip while you get yourself or your brood ready. For an extra boost, drink a shot of aloe vera juice with a pinch of cayenne pepper – this tastes really quite bad, but a quick shot will boost your system. You might have to leave a little time for a visit to the bathroom afterwards. But it really works and gets your whole sluggish system moving. Your skin will glow if you drink this regularly.

5. Do the basics

Here’s how to do the basic make-up to give your face and mind a lift.

Use concealer or a versatile BB cream on the upper and outer side of the nose with the pad of the middle finger on each hand. With an angled eyebrow brush: line the underside of brow with mocha coloured shadow if you have no eyebrow kit. Duo lip and blush products work well for mornings. Dot colour onto the middle of the bottom lip only with lip balm on the top lip. A defining and non-volume mascara works well during the day (on the top lashes and then bottom middle lashes). In Winter add in a high SPF that is mattifying to prevent blotchy skin.
