6 natural remedies to soothe your child’s eczema

This week is National Eczema Awareness Week.

Orlaith Condon

Eczema affects one in five children in Ireland.

The skin condition can develop from just months after a child is born but can also develop later on into adulthood.

The itching sensation can be incredibly irritable and painful for children and can cause major interferences with their sleep and mood.

However, not all treatments come in the form of medicated creams or store bought supplies.

There are quite a few natural ingredients that can work wonders, and you probably have some of them at home already.

1. Salt

Adding some sea salt to water and spraying it on the affected area can help ease any itching.

2. Chamomile

Known for being a soothing tea, a chamomile bath soak can also be incredibly healing on the skin. Adding the contents of a few tea bags to their bath can have them feeling a lot better.

3. Turmeric

The antioxidant found in turmeric has been proven to reduce the healing time of the skin. Adding a teaspoon to their meals could have great results.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Soak some cotton wool in apple cider vinegar and apply it to the affected areas (as long as they aren’t cracked or cut) this will help soothe the inflammation and disinfect the area.

5. Baking soda

This is the ultimate quick relief from itching. Mix some baking soda with some water and apply to the skin with a washcloth to prevent the scratch.

6. Cold compress

An oldie but a goodie. Soaking a cloth in cold water and applying it tightly to the area can be enough to ease the discomfort.
