A clever photo series shows that symmetrical faces aren’t always more beautiful

Sive O'Brien

Facial symmetry is often equated to beauty, but a fascinating photo series has proved that this is not always the case.

Photographer Alex John Beck decided to test the symmetrical theory of attractiveness by taking photos of people and creating perfectly symmetrical versions of each person’s face.

Each portrait in the series Both Sides Of features one of the left half of a person’s face mirrored, and the other of the right side.

The results are definitely a bit strange, proving that some people look much better when a little uneven. Take a look for yourself…
