A few months back a survey of newly married people in Ireland suggested that the average age for men and women to get married was 33 for men and 31 for women.
Well, now a new figure has been given and it’s come from the 2016 Marriages and Civil Partnerships report by the Central Statistics Office.
According to the report, a total of 22,626 marriages took place in Ireland in 2016, 21,570 opposite sex marriages and 1,056 same sex marriages.
The new report on marriages in Ireland found that the average age for men to get married in opposite sex relationships was 37.5, while it was 33.8 for women.
The age of women in same sex marriages was 41, while men in same sex marriages was 40.5.
Religious ceremonies accounted for the highest proportion of opposite sex marriages in 2016, with Civil marriage ceremonies being the most popular choice for non-religious marriage ceremonies.
July and August continue to be the most popular months for opposite sex weddings with January being the least favourable. For same sex couples, September was the most popular month.
