Mum issues warning to parents after her son is hospitalised with RSV

As cases of RSV continue to rise, doctors are urging parents to be aware of the symptoms. Symptoms are similar to that of a common cold. Most children will suffer from RSV before the age of 2. The majority of cases are mild, however, some children may suffer severe symptoms and may need to be hospitalised. One mum has opened up about her son's case after her 5-week-old was admitted to Temple Street Hospital. She warned parents on Facebook, "It’s RSV season and it is rampant at the minute so keep a close eye on your little ones!" The mum revealed she has been in hospital with her baby boy since last Thursday. She said her baby boy is on feeding tubes and oxygen. He was diagnosed with RSV and bronchiolitis. "His symptoms started with diarrhea, he then started drinking a lot less of his bottle and falling asleep halfway through. He had a tiny cough since Tuesday and started going off his bottles. He usually drank 7oz every 4hrs and he was only taking 3oz." "By Thursday night he only drank 3oz and the next bottle 1oz. He seemed to be struggling after his bottles so I brought him straight in." The mum said the hospital tried sending her home and said her son has a viral infection. There was a three-and-a-half-hour wait to see a doctor. The mum said her son's condition worsened quite quickly. His levels were at 94 and quickly dropped to 80 and he has been hospitalised since then. "There are so many babies in here at the minute with it so just be careful if you or anyone you know is feeling like they have a cold or flu. Stay away and always sanitize your hands regardless."
