Drinking wine at night makes you skinnier (we kid you not)

Katie Mythen-Lynch

We received confirmation that wine is so good for our health we should really be quaffing a glass daily. Today even better news reaches us, courtesy of the lovable booze boffins at Washington State University and Harvard.

Research has shown that people who drink two glasses of wine a day (that’s half a bottle, folks) are 70 percent less likely to be obese than people who don’t drink.

Yes, you are reading that correctly: Drinking wine (in moderation) makes you skinny.

How? Well apparently, people who relax after dinner with a glass of vino are less likely to reach for the biscuit tin or raid the crisp cupboard. It essentially deters you from scoffing your weight in Digestives. Red wine also contains reservatrol, which seems to stop fat cells from taking on more fat.

The takeaway? Enjoy your Rioja or Malbec in the evening, just stay away from the cheese board.
