Here’s why you may not want to sunbathe naked in your garden

Something to consider.

During the extremely warm weather we're experiencing it can often be tempting to sunbathe out the back garden or even in the front garden of your house. Some people even take it one step further and go completely naked to get a tan. Well, it turns out this is not a good idea and could get you in a lot of trouble with the law. You could end up with a public indecency charge amounting to €634 or six months in prison. According to The Sun, the law states:

“Under Section 18 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act (1990), which replaced the old public indecency offence. Under Section 18, “any person who commits, in public, any act in such a way as to offend modesty or cause scandal or injure the morals of the community shall be guilty . The person may receive a fine of up to €634.87 or six months imprisonment.”

Even though you're on your own property, if you are seen by others it's considered 'public'. When the Gardaí were asked if this applied to sunbathing naked in the garden they said it was best to be 'discreet' to avoid any issues with the law. In other words, keep out of view of the neighbours and onlookers. Or just keep enough clothes on to comply with what is deemed 'decent'.
