Maternity services resumed at 9 am this morning.
Maternity services have resumed at Wexford General Hospital after a fire broke out at the hospital on Wednesday.
The fire didn’t cause major damage, but inspections are still taking place.
Thankfully, nobody was injured during the blaze. Gardaí safely evacuated staff and patients from the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking to RTÉ, hospital manager Linda O’Leary said services will slowly resume.
She explained that services will resume on a phased basis while they assess the damage.
They have already recorded fire, smoke, and water damage at the hospital.
Outpatient activity will also resume on Monday.
However, it could be weeks or months before the hospital is fully open again.
But the hospital team is hopeful repairs will start soon.
Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ray Murphy said the fire was contained before any extensive damage was caused.
He told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that the damage is “medium to small”.
