A popular kid’s multivitamin has been recalled from Boots stores after a mis-packaging incident.

According to the Food Safety Authority the recalled product – Boots Kids Daily Health Multivitamins Strawberry Flavour – was reportedly mis-packaged with Boots Kids Health Multivitamin + Omega 3 Orange Flavour gummies.

The latter product contains soya, an allergen, which was not declared in the list of ingredients.

A statement shared on the FSAI website warns that the product could now be ‘unsafe’ for certain children.

“The above batch of Boots Kids Daily Health Multivitamins Strawberry Flavour was mispacked with Boots Kids Health Multivitamin + Omega 3 Orange Flavour gummies. This product contains soya which is not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of soya”.

Soya is one of 14 allergens that must be declared by law on all relevant food products.

A soy allergy is one of the more common allergies, particularly among babies and children. Symptoms can occur within minutes or hours and may include:

  • Tingling
  • Hives or itching
  • Swelling of lips, mouth, or other body parts
  • Wheezing
  • Belly pain, nausea, or vomiting
  • Red skin

Those with more serious allergy symptoms could have a severe reaction called anaphylaxis which requires immediate care. Symptoms include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Shock and a severe drop in blood pressure
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or blacking out
