We have all gotten rather used to hearing about how we are what we eat these days.
As in, how everything we put in our mouths has a direct affect on our health and wellness.
But did you ever stop to think that this very goes for what we put on our skin too?
Spoiler: It very much so matters. Why? Because our skin is a porous organ – the largest, organ, in fact, of the body.
What this means is that your skin absorbs what you put on it, and what you put on then enters your blood stream, cells and other internal organs. Which, you know, starts to sounds pretty scary when you start reading the ingredients list of your favourite beauty products.
But it doesn’t have to be like this. You could start by doing your health a massive favour in changing your beauty products to ones that are clean, green and good for your body. And right now, swapping to greener, cleaner and more sustainable beauty products have just become so much easier with the launch of The Beauty Edit – Ireland’s newest female-led online boutique beauty emporium that curates some of the best cult clean beauty brands, from Ireland and from across the globe.

Here are products that are not only using as many natural ingredients as possible, but that also genuinely produce luxurious and results-driven formulations that work – for all of us who are

We use so many different products on our skin and bodies every day, from deodorant to hair spray and hand cream – the problem when it comes to using conventional products is that while each product may only contain a few “not to good for you” ingredients, what is worrying to many healthcare experts is the combined cocktail effect of all of these, applied to our skin on a daily basis.
This is what Dawn Mayne, founder of The Beauty Edit has to say about why choosing cleaner, non-toxic beauty products are important:
“We feel that good quality, clean products, whether in terms of beauty, food or household items, are at the centre of good health and wellness, and that a healthy mind, body and spirit are all interlinked and within our reach to achieve. We only stock and recommend products that meet our high standards, and we are constantly searching for new, and fabulous, brands and products to share with our customers.”
There is no denying that daily exposure to chemicals in our beauty and healthcare products can have a negative impact on our health, but luckily, there seem to be more and more amazing, clean products coming to the market as consumers start asking for products that are both effective and won’t be harmful to their long-term health or the environment.
“It is now possible to find make up and skincare that is natural, nourishes the skin and has a positive, long-term health and anti-ageing effect,” explains Mayne.
“You no longer need to choose between natural ingredients and performance. We believe in using the power of nature and food to heal and nourish our bodies in the best, most environmentally friendly way. Our brands are transparent about the ingredients that they use and how they use them, and they really care about making products with carefully chosen ingredients that work and are environmentally sustainable and cruelty free.”
