Quit to Fit: Meet the teams

It’s finally time – Quit to Fit is back!

After seeing the success of those who took the plunge and dived right into the Quit to Fit challenge last year, we’re back with 10 weeks planned full of activities to help our determined teams to quit smoking for good.

With so many, including our readers, being ready to say ‘goodbye’ to smoking, we asked our Her audience to join in and opt to become the face of our feel-good campaign. The soul aim of this campaign is to improve health, wellness, fitness and to finally nip smoking in the bud.

Addiction expert Raul Aparici will deliver weekly videos on our Her Instagram stories, offering advice for each stage of the transition from smoker to quitter. The teams will dive into activities like Yoga, Boxercise and they’ll even try out a personal training session.

Each week’s challenge will help the teams to embrace healthier, fitter lifestyles and form new, positive habits instead of smoking.

Raul’s weekly advice will be available to all participants including our readers following along at home, so remember to let us know how you’re getting on using the hashtag #QuitToFit each week.

As for our seven brave teams chosen below – they’ll go for VO2 testing (to measure cardiovascular fitness and give a breakdown of fitness profile) before beginning the challenge. Soon, they’ll feel energetic, healthier and fit to do SO much more.

At the end of our 10 weeks, they’ll take the same VO2 test as before to measure just how far they’ve come along within that space of time. Here, we’ll be picking the overall winners and these lucky ducks will have won themselves a fitness holiday worth a huge €2,000! (Hurrah!)

Team 1: Rob Johnston and Ciara O ‘Dwyer

Here’s our couple from Cork who want to be able to save money, feel better and improve their fitness.

Team 2: Nicola Kavanagh and Lorna Kavanagh

These sisters from Galway, hate the smell smoking leaves on their clothes and are tired of feeling so lethargic.

Team 3: Kim Berry and Dean Berry

This young and recently married couple from Tullamore are planning on starting a family and want to get healthy to have a long life with their future children.

Team 4: Bernard Quinn and Sean Quinn

These brothers from Louth both have children they would like to try and quit for.

Team 5: Dan Fynes and Chris Fynes

These brothers from Dublin, have been smoking for a number of years and have tried quitting unsuccessfully a number of times before. They’re both hoping this challenge will help them quit once and for all!

Team 6: Laura Hall and Clare Cullen

These two women from Dublin want to quit because both of them think it’s a horrible habit, a waste of money and know it will only have negative impacts on both of their futures.

Team 7: Keith Dawson and Magdalena Kobielus

Last but not least, this young couple from Dublin want to quit to improve overall health and to avoid being dependent on something “so lethal.”
