HerFamily

Love reading? Well then, you’ll have to put this one on your list because it has just been voted the all-time Book Club favourite by the Irish public.

Eason – Ireland’s leading retailers of books, stationery, magazines and cards – unveiled its Top 50 Book Club Classics earlier this week, from which people were asked to choose their favourite.

The most popular was announced on today’s Pat Kenny Show and the winning novel was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (with almost 13 per cent of the vote).

The Book Thief

Here are the other top titles:

  • The Book Thief (Markus Zusak)
  • The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini)
  • Me Before You (Jojo Moyes)
  • Room (Emma Donoghue)
  • The Help (Kathryn Stockett)
  • The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold)
  • The Time Traveller’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger)
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Mark Haddon)
  • We Need To Talk About Kevin (Lionel Shriver)

Other books that made it into the original Top 50 list by Eason include The Secret Scripture (Sebastian Barry), Life of Pi (Yann Martel), One Day (David Nicholls) and The Spinning Heart (Donal Ryan).

In case you haven’t read it yet, The Book Thief is set in Nazi Germany in 1939 and tells the story of 9-year-old girl whose parents have been taken away to a concentration camp.
