Study reveals pear eaters less likely to be obese

They might not seem like a superfood but it turns out pears are very good for you. In fact, research has revealed that those who consume this fruit are less likely to be overweight or obese.

The study, headed by Carol O’Neil of the Louisiana University Agricultural Center, found that those who consume fresh pears tend to have smaller waistlines and lower body weight than those who do not.

People who eat pears are actually 35 per cent less likely to be obese which is interesting considering that the experts did not find any difference in the exercise routines between the two groups.

According to MedicalXpress O’Neil believes that the reason is the fibre found in the fruit – it seems one medium pear contains about a quarter of “daily fibre needs for only 100 calories.”

It could also be to do with the fact that those who eat pears had a better quality of diet, consuming more nutrients and less fatty acids.
